Data Center Operator

Summary:

Monitor performance and availability of computer hardware, operating system and application software. Provide technical assistance to resolve hardware and software issues.

Job Duties:

  • Provide advanced technical support and leadership in primary area of responsibility (network operations, server operations, system monitoring, print operations, Problem Management and Production processing support)
  • Document problems in the Problem Management system, providing detailed information and analysis. Work closely in support of the Immediate Response Unit (IRU) during outages and root cause analysis
  • Provide advanced level support of Disaster Recovery processes in house, such as backup and restore processes, Disk initializations and decommission, Production Library compression
  • Completes special projects and related responsibilities as assigned with minimal difficulty and supervision
  • Creates objectives for internal related initiatives
  • Develop and implement new process and procedure, as well as perform updates to current documentation as required
  • Responsible for leading the recovery process for the Mainframe environment during a Disaster Recovery Drill or real Recovery occurrence should the primary Data Center become incapacitated
  • Responsible for addressing problems within the HVAC and Power environments, working closely with the Facilities team and associated vendors

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
  • Advanced knowledge of VM, zLinux for Mainframe, Websphere Operation fundamentals in a multi-tiered application architecture from an Operational perspective.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Advanced understanding and knowledge of System and Application Monitoring, Change Management and Problem Management tools.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Network Technologies, such as routers, switches, firewalls, sniffer, ISDN, Frame Relay, TCP/IP and Wide Area/ Local Area Network architectures.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Disaster Recovery processes and technologies, including Dasd and Server backup and restore products, such as Legato, Evault, Avamar, FDR, Upstream, etc. Be able to perform these processes with minimal supervision and training.
  • Ability to assume a leadership role in the event the Shift Assistant Manager is out of the office or unavailable.

 
Education and Experience:

  • Associates or Technology College degree in computer science, networking or software
  • 2 years related work experienced
