Summary:
Responsible for day to day operations of the organization’s global voice and data networks (wired and wireless), enterprise network architecture, network technology evaluations, protocol analysis, configuration, and research, complex trouble shooting and analysis and network projects.
Job Duties:
- Designs and plans network communications systems
- Provides specifications and detailed diagrams for network architecture
- Provides specific detailed information for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques and tools for the most efficient solution to meet business needs, including present and future capacity requirements
- Conducts testing of network design and maintains technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches
- Evaluates and report on new communications technologies to enhance capabilities of the network
- Ensure that the WAN and LANs are operating efficiently and optimal, so that all service level agreements (SLAs) are achieved
- Lead small and medium size project initiatives and provides technical expertise to network staff
- Develop diagrams of networks using standard templates to illustrate solutions to customers and technical staff
- Identify customer requirements and design moderately complex network systems
- Lead or participate in planning and assessment project phases and lead/assist with project design/implementation phases
- Conduct feasibility studies and participates in the development of technical standards
- Experience with Cisco core/edge Layer 2/3 switches and WAN routers
Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience with protocols (i.e. Spanning-tree, 802.3ad Link Aggregation, 802.1q Trunking, LLDP/CDP, etc), Layer 3 protocols (ARP, VRRP/HSRP, OSPF, OSPFv3, BGPv4) Security protocols (IPsec and SSL with respect to VPN)
- Experience with common TCP/IP network protocols (e.g. SSH, HTTP(S), SMTP, etc), other than those above, and their proper operation
- Ability to troubleshoot using packet capture, data analysis and other common means and to suggest and/or implement configuration changes to correct issues
- Operational procedures and practices for managing and monitoring network infrastructure in enterprise environments
- Project management tools for schedule, scope, personnel and budget tracking
- Follow industry and laboratory standards for cabling, infrastructure design and installation. Ability to validate proper installation using test-sets and visual inspection
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization
- High-level programming and/or scripting languages for task automation using unix or windows systems and management tools
- Familiarity with Unix and Windows systems and common tools used for the management and monitoring of network communication systems (including, but not limited to SolarWinds, Nagios, Cacti, RANCID, Cisco ACS, etc.)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or an equivalent in education is required for this position
