Senior Storage/Backup Administrator

Summary:

Provides direction, develops, and implements solutions with a high degree of network connectivity and positions solutions that support disaster recovery initiatives. Prepares and validates failover planning in case of disaster. Develops detailed implementation and support documentation.

 Job Duties:

  • Daily support and monitoring of large Hitachi, NetApp, Net backup and Linux/Windows environments
  • Monitoring, configuration, and maintenance of Brocade fabric switches
  • Work, under guidance with senior team members, with engineering, project management, systems and database administrators to implement storage and backup architectures that utilize industry best practices in complex virtualized environments
  • Automate storage, systems, backup administration, monitoring, data gathering and reporting tasks using PERL, Shell and other scripting languages
  • Monitor and develop reports for storage, systems and fabric performance
  • Monitor, analyze, predict trends for SAN, NAS and Net backup performance and adjust VTL and backup configurations for optimal performance and availability
  • Follow change control protocols to implement off-hour modifications to storage, backup appliances and software, coordinating with offshore team
  • Participate in incident management through a 24x7 production support on call rotation after initial training period
  • Ensure documentation of end-to-end storage and backup environment is current
  • Communicate with peers and management regarding storage/backup operational issues and initiatives

 Skills and Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge and experience in managing Brocade SAN Fabrics and Hitachi storage arrays
  • Expert knowledge and experience in managing Linux systems for mission critical systems running large IO intensive work load
  • Subject matter expert in at least one of the following storage vendor products: Hitachi, IBM or NetApp.
  • Subject matter expert in Net backup and VTL technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of storage implementation in highly virtualized environments
  • Experience in working under virtualized Linux, Windows server environments like Cisco UCS, HP and Hitachi Blade centers
  • Experience in scripting and working with command line utilities
  • Experience in supporting 24x7 production environment
  • Experience with Net backup
  • Experience with SAN fabric troubleshooting and end to end storage performance analysis
  • Ability to perform complex tasks in a dynamic environment
  • Experience in host multipathing and clustering technologies
  • Ability to create policies, procedures and standards relating to storage and backup administration
  • Highly experienced in problem identification and resolution in real time
  • Highly skilled in post mortem root cause analysis as related to production incidents

 Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/Science
  • 5 years experience in storage systems, data backup recovery, storage area networks, and project management
